# A better room preview starts with a clear photo

When a visualization tool accepts your own room photo, the starting image shapes what you can judge. You do not need a professional camera; a clear view of the floor is the priority.

## Photograph the floor and its surroundings

Stand far enough back to include the area where you want the rug, together with nearby furniture. The sofa, table legs or bed provide useful visual context. Avoid a close-up of the floor with no sense of the surrounding room.

Hold the camera level and start with the phone’s standard lens. Very wide angles can stretch the edges of the scene and make proportions harder to judge. If possible, compare a second photo before choosing the one to use.

## Use even, familiar light

Daylight often gives you a useful starting point. Try to avoid a frame split between deep shadow and direct glare. Turn off strong colour filters and keep the same image settings when comparing products.

A preview cannot reproduce the exact feel of wool, the direction of a pile or every change in colour under different lighting. Treat it as a way to compare the overall composition, alongside the retailer’s product details.

## Leave the placement area visible

Move small objects that hide the intended rug area. You do not need to empty the room: visible furniture helps explain how the rug would relate to the layout.

Do not crop the image so tightly that the rug would extend beyond the frame. A little surrounding floor makes the boundaries easier to compare.

## Keep comparison conditions consistent

- Use the same room photo for each candidate.
- Confirm the rug variant and size before comparing.
- Keep placement and viewing angle as consistent as possible.
- Verify final dimensions with physical measurements.

## Choose what you share

Before uploading a room photo to any service, check for people, documents, family photos or other details you would rather keep private. Review that service’s photo handling information so you understand what happens to the image.

Our website’s interactive demo uses a sample room. You can explore it without uploading a personal room photo.
